Lipan is a small city located in Hood County, Texas. It is part of the Granbury Micropolitan Statistical Area. According to the United States Census Bureau, Lipan had a population of approximately 461 in 2016.

Before Lipan was settled, the area surrounding the city was occupied by American Indians from several tribes. Members of the Wichita, Apache, and Comanche tribes all inhabited the area. These individuals were attracted to the area due to the bountiful game and many creeks that provided water. In 1853, white settlers arrived in the area. About 20 years later, an Irishman named Thomas Allen Burns moved into the area laid out a township which became Lipan. The town was incorporated in 1956.

Despite the small size of Lipan, Texas, it is filled with many amenities that provide residents a wonderful quality of life. The town is home to the Lipan Fire department, one United States Postal Service office, and the Lipan Community Center. The city is also home to two churches. These are the Lipan Church of Christ and Lipan First Baptist Church. Also located in Lipan is Lipan High School, which provides young residents excellent educational opportunities.

Lipan residents find it necessary to have both heating and cooling systems installed in their homes. The city is located in a climate that experiences cool winters and very warm summers. Daytime temperature highs throughout the months of December, January, and February fluctuate between the upper-50s and lower-60s. At night, it is not uncommon for temperatures to dip well below freezing.
